Nailing: SureNail vs LayerLock
Duration's SureNail strip is a woven engineered fabric across the nailing zone. Where the fabric overlaps the bond between the two laminated layers, it creates Triple Layer Protection that grips the nail. Owens Corning backs it with a 130 mph wind warranty using only four nails.
Timberline HDZ uses LayerLock to bond its layers and the wide StrikeZone nailing area to help crews hit the right spot. GAF's WindProven warranty carries no wind speed cap for 15 years, but only with GAF starter, ridge cap, deck protection and leak barrier or ventilation.
Algae and Black Streaks
Connecticut's humid summers feed the algae that leaves dark streaks on north-facing roofs. GAF warrants StainGuard Plus against algae for 25 years. Owens Corning warrants StreakGuard for 10 years. If streaking is your top concern, this is GAF's clearest advantage.
